Paint a wet-into-wet wash of Cobalt Blue, Burnt Sienna and Olive Green. When this wash is completely dry, apply a dark wet-into-dry wash of Sap Green and French Ultramarine Blue. Use this technique to layer values and create negative or positive shapes.

Subdue a very busy wet-into-wet wash of Cobalt Blue, Brown Madder and salt texture with a wet-into-dry wash. Glaze the first wash with French Ultramarine Blue, allowing a small amount of texture to show through. This technique can be controlled by the transparency of the wet-into-dry wash. Don’t reactivate the texture.
